Epic Games is generating a lot of news lately, mainly due to the ongoing court battle against Apple . And, as a side-effect of that trial, a slew of documents that have recently been revealed shedding a bit more light on how the company operates. For instance, we learned that Epic spent over $11 million on free games in the first nine months of giveaways. The document showed how much Epic paid developers to secure their games as freebies, along with how many new Epic Game Store accounts were created to claim those games. Pretty interesting stuff. I know a lot of people claim Epic Games Store's free games , including many of us here at PC Gamer. But how many of us actually play those games, instead of just logging in to nab them and then completely forgetting about them? IMDBb TV’s Alex Rider . Photo: Courtesy of Amazon Studios/Nick Wall/Eleventh Hour Films/So The hottest front in the streaming wars right now is the battle for free TV. Platforms such as Roku Channel, Pluto, and Tubi are scrambling to give subscription-wary consumers zero-cost alternatives, betting they’ll be willing to put up with a few minutes of ads in exchange for the sort of content you’d traditionally find on broadcast TV or basic cable. While the global e-commerce giant already has a firm footing in the subscription business via Prime Video, IMDb TV represents an opportunity for the company to grow its already-significant advertising revenues and dominate the rapidly growing category of free, ad-supported TV — or FAST, for short. Industry folks I’ve talked to think IMDb TV has a leg up … [Read more...] about IMDb TV Wants to Win the Free Streaming Wars
There was a point in time where it looked like wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster would not be returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers in NFL free agency. But after exploring some options, Smith-Schuster chose to return on a one-year deal with Pittsburgh. But Smith-Schuster recently revealed on the Michael Irvin Podcast that he would have gone to play for the Kansas City Chiefs if he had left the Steelers. “ Andy Reid was just calling me and he was sending me Lombardi Trophy pictures like constantly,” Smith-Schuster said on the podcast, according to NFL.com . “We had a good talk, so it would’ve been K.C. after the Steelers. Like texted it to me while I was trying to make a decision and I have so much respect for him and his team.” The Chiefs weren’t the only team that was interested in Smith-Schuster, though. The Baltimore Ravens, whose leading receiver had just 769 yards in 2020, were also interested in signing Smith-Schuster. “[Playing for a rival], too, and I’m curious … [Read more...] about JuJu Smith-Schuster said he considered Chiefs, Ravens in free agency
