Orban Labels Salvini ‘Most Important Person in Europe’ Ahead of Visit

Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán has again praised Italian populist Matteo Salvini, calling him the most important person in Europe ahead of Salvini’s visit to Hungary this week. Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior in Italy’s League/Five Star coalition government, is set to meet the Hungarian leader in Budapest on Thursday, which will mark the latest meeting between the two populist politicians who have become closer allies over the last year. On the eve of the visit, Prime Minister Orbán spoke of his admiration for Salvini in an interview with Italian newspaper La Stampa . “Tomorrow, [Salvini] will arrive in a country where people see him as a friend,” Orbán said, adding: “We share a common fate: both of us had to endure attacks.” In the past, Orbán has praised the League (La Lega) leader as his “hero” , and used the term in his La Stampa interview again, saying Salvini is “the hero who was the first to stop migration by sea, while we did … [Read more...] about Orban Labels Salvini ‘Most Important Person in Europe’ Ahead of Visit

Mitsubishi Could Return To Europe With Help From Renault: Report

The new Outlander could be launched in Europe after all. In May last year, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance detailed the new roles of the automakers within the conglomerate. Mitsubishi got the position of a leader of the business in the Southeast Asia region. At the time, the company wasn’t exactly sure what to do with its operations in Europe but a decision was taken just a few months later. In the summer of 2020, Mitsubishi announced it is halting the introduction of new models for the Old continent in an attempt to reduce its costs by 20 percent in two years and become profitable again. The decision included not launching the new Outlander in the European markets, though a new report indicates the strategy could change soon. Quoting a report from The Financial Times , Autocar says the Diamond brand could put some of its Euro-spec models on Renault’s production lines in France. Such a move could open the doors for new models to start arriving in Europe. … [Read more...] about Mitsubishi Could Return To Europe With Help From Renault: Report

Orban: EU’s Permissive Stance on Migration Has ‘Turned the Mediterranean Into a Cemetery’

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has defended his strong stance against mass migration, saying the European Union’s relaxed attitude towards illegal border crossings “has turned the Mediterranean into a cemetery”. The national conservative leader offered his characteristically robust take on EU immigration policy in an interview with the German news outlet FOCUS, a translation of which has been seen by Breitbart London. “The main point of conflict between you and the EU is immigration. Why are you so opposed to the distribution of immigrants among EU member-states?” asked his interviewer, in reference to the EU policy of compulsory quotas for migrant redistribution which several conservative-leaning countries led by Hungary have been resisting. “Because it’s based on a wrong-headed concept,” Orbán explained. “We must take help to where the problems are, not bring those problems to Europe. The EU is creating illusions in the minds of people living in poorer countries. … [Read more...] about Orban: EU’s Permissive Stance on Migration Has ‘Turned the Mediterranean Into a Cemetery’

US Race Solidarity Protests Erupt in Cities Worldwide

LONDON - Protests have erupted in cities around the world in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in the United States. The protests follow the death in Minnesota of George Floyd, a 46-year old black man, last week in police custody. In central London, demonstrations turned violent Sunday as police tried to clear a road junction outside Parliament. Police made 23 arrests. Protesters accused the police of triggering the violence, an accusation that authorities denied. “We came out here peacefully to protest the injustice in the U.K.,” one demonstrator told reporters. “It's now a global issue with the murder of George Floyd, everything that's going on in the world.’ Hundreds of people also gathered in central London’s Trafalgar Square chanting, “George Floyd, Say His Name.” Demonstrators also chanted, “I Can’t Breathe” as they marched on the U.S. Embassy — the words spoken by Floyd as Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for more than … [Read more...] about US Race Solidarity Protests Erupt in Cities Worldwide
