Other cities in Louisiana and similar-sized cities in the region charge similar hourly rates to park as Lafayette but many have a more modern system that makes it more user-friendly, a survey shows. The Acadiana Advocate surveyed other cities in Louisiana and five cities in states along the Gulf Coast to see how they do parking amid the current discussion on what is next for parking in downtown Lafayette. Some cities charged $1 per hour while some others, including three surveyed in Texas, do not have parking meters but have more options for surface parking and parking garages. Other cities, such as Shreveport, have easier means of payment through technology, including the Parkmobile app. The topic of parking will be the biggest issue in 2021 for the Downtown Development Association, which said last month it would take the lead on the issue. It spilled over into the public discussion when Lafayette Consolidated Government trucked in a plan to double the rates from 50 cents to … [Read more...] about How does downtown Lafayette’s parking compare to other cities? More admitted to drug rehab centre in 2019, driven by changes in law aimed at reducing relapse
SINGAPORE: The number of drug rehabilitation centre (DRC) admissions saw a sharp spike in 2019 following changes to the legislation, annual statistics released by the Singapore Prison Service (SPS) showed on Friday (Feb 7). A total of 2,080 inmates were admitted to the DRC in 2019, a 65 per cent jump from the 1,257 admitted the year before. There were 1,152 admissions in 2017. This is the first time SPS is sharing total figures for drug-related admissions. The spike comes after the Misuse of Drugs Act was amended in January last year to allow repeat drug abusers who have not committed other concurrent offences to be sent to DRC, in a move aimed at reducing relapse and improving reintegration. Previously, the DRC was reserved for first- and second-time drug abusers. Those arrested for the third time and more were subjected to long-term imprisonment. The DRC regime includes psychology-based correctional programmes, skills training as well as family support and religious … [Read more...] about More admitted to drug rehab centre in 2019, driven by changes in law aimed at reducing relapse
Netflix: Tiger King was big, but Spenser Confidential was huge
Netflix 's viral docuseries Tiger King may have been a feverish, collective binge-watch last month just as the coronavirus pandemic truly locked down the world, but another Netflix release earlier this year outstripped even Tiger King's popularity. On Tuesday, Netflix dropped another cache of popularity figures for its originals, as it also reported insane subscriber growth for the beginning of the year. Spenser Confidential , an action-comedy movie starring Mark Wahlberg, was watched by 85 million households in its first month of release, compared with the (still crazy) 64 million households that watched Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness in its first month. And Netflix mentioned the popularity of Too Hot to Handle, a dating competition reality show released last week with the winning premise that a group of hot people are isolated at a resort and then lose prize money every time they have a sexual encounter with each other. It's on track to be "probably our … [Read more...] about Netflix: Tiger King was big, but Spenser Confidential was huge
‘It’s a flight to flexibility’: Why co-working spaces are seeing rising demand amid COVID-19
SINGAPORE: As the COVID-19 pandemic wears on, co-working spaces in Singapore are seeing signs of recovery – fuelled by companies seeking flexible contracts and people hoping to escape working from home. While business was hit hard during the country’s “circuit breaker”, operators said occupancy rates have since gradually gone up, easing initial concerns that the pandemic would kill off the industry. These co-working centres revolve around shared amenities, with offerings ranging from hot-desking places for individuals to dedicated studios for firms. “Our hot-desking membership was at very healthy levels, but when COVID-19 hit, at the lowest point, it dropped to maybe 30 per cent of that. But now it’s slowly warming up to about 70 per cent,” said JustCo's vice president and head of Singapore and Indonesia Brandon Chia. The co-working player has 19 outlets across Singapore, accommodating both individuals and enterprises. Halo 5’s campaign goes back to basics – and it’s all the better for it
Playing Halo 5's campaign, you get the feeling developer 343 is being pulled in two opposing directions: one direction heads towards the tried and trusted Halo gameplay perfected by Bungie before Microsoft took over development duties after the release of Halo: Reach, the other direction heads towards a need to grow the Halo franchise while establishing new characters. Where does Halo 5's meaty, crisp and fun campaign end up? Further along the gameplay road than the story road. Let's start with the story. In the build up to the release of Halo 5, Microsoft's marketing has zeroed in on an apparent conflict between Master Chief, the series star, and a new Spartan, the ex-ONI agent Jameson Locke. Is Master Chief, who goes AWOL alongside a few of his Spartan friends (Fred, Linda and Kelly), really a traitor? Locke, leader of Fireteam Osiris (Buck, voiced by the suitably wise-cracking Nathan Fillion, Tanaka and Vale) is dispatched to hunt Master Chief down under orders issued by a … [Read more...] about Halo 5’s campaign goes back to basics – and it’s all the better for it
