Stuff The Government said the Electricity Price Review would benefit consumers but, a year on, doubts remain that all power companies have adopted the spirit of its recommendations. Most people who use a lot of electricity, don't shop around for power, or who sometimes pay their bills late, can expect lower power prices as a result of a sweeping overhaul of the electricity market. But others who rely on gas for most of their power needs, or who have invested in their own home-solar systems, could end up paying hundreds of dollars a year more as plans that reward low electricity usage are phased out. Energy Minister Megan Woods announced the Government was backing 20 changes to the electricity market , that together amount to the biggest shake-up for the industry in 20 years. The reforms, which include new regulations designed to bolster competition, stem from the Electricity Price Review that the Government ordered last year . Saying that it wants to control the key technology for electric vehicles, Ford plans to open a battery development centre near Detroit by the end of next year. The company said the 18,500-square-metre facility will have equipment to design, test and even do small-scale manufacturing of battery cells and packs. The lab also will develop electronic controls and other items as Ford moves more of the process in-house. Eventually the company wants to do large-scale manufacturing of its own batteries globally, a task now performed by supply companies. Like many global automakers who have been stung by computer chip and other supply chain shortages , Ford wants to make sure it has enough batteries for what it says is an accelerating transition away from internal combustion engines. Hau Thai-Tang, the company’s chief product and operations officer, said electric vehicles are moving from early adopters to an early majority as new models come out, and Ford wants to lead the … [Read more...] about Ford plans to develop and produce electric vehicle batteries
Some rotate to clean your teeth, while others vibrate. And some have features such as a timer or pressure sensor. Electric toothbrushes can basically be divided into three categories. Oscillating rotary toothbrushes have small circular heads that rotate back and forth to clean each tooth. They typically oscillate laterally several thousand times per minute, and also rotate back and forth at a 50° to 70° angle, according to German consumer watchdog Stiftung Warentest. Some have a pulsing feature as well. “This is meant to dislodge more dental plaque,” explains dentist Dr Stefan Zimmer, a professor in the Department of Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine at Witten/Herdecke University in Germany. Sonic toothbrushes, on the other hand, have an oblong, vibrating head that moves bristles side-to-side at speeds high enough to produce an audible hum. They make between 13,000 and 40,000 movements per minute, according to Stiftung Warentest. “The average frequency is about … [Read more...] about Which type of electric toothbrush should you use?
