Ia dibiayai menerusi Dana Endowmen Umum, kata Menteri Bertanggungjawab bagi Ehwal Masyarakat Islam, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim. Menjawab soalan Encik Zainal Sapari (GRC Pasir Ris-Punggol) di Parlimen semalam, Dr Yaacob berkata dana tersebut mempunyai beberapa sumber pendapatan, termasuk hartanah, warisan dan pendapatan pelaburan, serta bayaran bagi perkhidmatan seperti pensijilan halal. "Dana zakat bukan sebahagian daripada Dana Endowmen Umum dan dikira berasingan," kata beliau. Menjelaskan lebih lanjut, beliau berkata jumlah zakat yang dikumpulkan pada 2013 ialah $28.4 juta.
