UK Weather: Weekend temperatures set to plunge to -10C as Arctic air blasts Britain

A freezing -10C Arctic blast is set to sweep across the UK this weekend. The Met Office is warning temperatures could plummet to -10C in parts of Scotland on Saturday morning. It comes after a period of unseasonably warm and sunny weather across Britain, with the mercury rising to 18C in Weybourne, Norfolk, on February 24. However, conditions have taken a turn for the worse this week with some Brits experiencing lows of 4C and thick fog. While sub-zero temperatures are expected in areas of the UK this evening, they will be far more widespread on Saturday morning. The Met Office said: "It may be chilly for some tonight, but it will be cold and frosty for most first thing on Saturday morning, when temperatures in some sheltered glens in Scotland could be as low as minus 10 Celsius!" US trade pressure keeps temperature ‘down’ between China and Hong Kong: Trump

WASHINGTON: US economic pressure on China was responsible for preventing the authorities from carrying out a harsher crackdown against demonstrators in Hong Kong, US President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday (Aug 30). "Because of what I'm doing with trade that's really keeping down the temperature," he said at the White House. Trump's tough line - and his claim that events in Hong Kong are linked to the trade war - follows his insistence over the last week that Chinese negotiators are keener than ever to strike a deal. READ: The fight behind closed doors at home in Hong Kong, a commentary However, despite repeated hints that high-level communications have been reopened on the standoff, White House officials have sparked skepticism by failing to provide details of those reported talks. His comments on Hong Kong could touch political nerves in China, which bristles at anything it sees as outside interference in the restive city. Asked if he saw a connection … [Read more...] about US trade pressure keeps temperature ‘down’ between China and Hong Kong: Trump

Temperature hits 45 degrees Celsius in France as Europe heatwave leaves 2 dead in Spain

PARIS: The temperature in France on Friday (Jun 28) surpassed 45 degrees Celsius for the first time on record as Europe wilted in a major heatwave, state weather forecaster Meteo-France said. The record was set in the village of Villevieille in the southern department of Gard, which registered a high of 45.1 degrees Celsius. The previous record stood at 44.1 degrees Celsius in the same area during the notorious August 2003 heatwave, Meteo-France said. France, Spain, Italy and parts of central Europe are particularly badly hit by the high temperatures, and officials have urged people to take "common sense" precautions. France's new record temperature of 45.9 degrees Celsius was registered in Gallargues-le-Montueux, a village in the southern department of Gard near Montpellier, breaking successive records set earlier in the day, the Meteo-France weather service told AFP. This is the same area where the previous high of 44.1 degrees Celsius was set in August 2003. Records began … [Read more...] about Temperature hits 45 degrees Celsius in France as Europe heatwave leaves 2 dead in Spain

The childcare centre in Punggol, which officially opened on Thursday (May 23), can take in up to 1,065 pupils, including 160 babies. More than 600 children from two months to four years old are already enrolled at the facility, which first started operating in May 2018. READ: Why it's still so hard to have more early childhood educators in Singapore The large childcare centre will use a temperature scanner to automatically take the temperatures of children as they enter the school every morning. This helps to ease some of the potential health concerns for a large campus, such as containing an outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), said Ms Thian Ai Ling, general manager of My First Skool.
