The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has around 60,000 taxis and 4.6 lakh auto-rickshaws, including some petrol-run vehicles. The minimum fare for a distance of 1.5 km for taxis has increased from Rs 22 to Rs 25, while for the auto- rickshaws it has gone up from Rs 18 to Rs 21, RTO officials said. Beyond this flag down minimum distance, passengers will have to pay Rs 16.93 per km for taxis and Rs 14.20 per km for auto-rickshaws, they said. The decision for the minimum fare hike by Rs 3 was taken last week in a meeting of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) which was chaired by Maharashtra transport secretary. The fare increase has been calculated as per a formula devised by the four-member Khatua panel, and it entails a hike of Rs 2.09 per km for taxis and Rs 2.01 for auto-rickshaws, the officials said. The last fare hike was implemented on June 1, 2015, they said. State Transport Minister Anil Parab last week said the fares of auto-rickshaws and … [Read more...] about Mumbai: New fares for auto-rickshaws, taxis come into force

COVID-19: Mandatory for taxi drivers to print receipts for street-hail passengers, says LTA
SINGAPORE: It is now compulsory for taxi drivers to print out receipts for street-hail passengers, regardless of whether the passengers requested for one. In response to CNA's queries on Saturday (Jun 13), the Land and Transport Authority (LTA) said the measure "facilitates contact tracing effort when the need arises". Taxi drivers who are caught flouting the rule face a fine of S$50. "This requirement to issue receipts is not new," said LTA, adding that it had worked with taxi operators to instruct drivers to do so since April 2020. "If there is feedback on drivers who do not comply, LTA will investigate based on the circumstances of each case." ComfortDelGro trials plastic shields in 400 taxis to curb COVID-19 spread
SINGAPORE: ComfortDelGro will install plastic shields in 400 taxis in a trial that aims to minimise contact between cabbies and passengers, reducing the spread of COVID-19, said the firm on Wednesday (May 20). Dubbed the V-shield, it covers the driver's cabin entirely and is locally made using "an unbreakable material", said ComfortDelGro in a media release, adding that the shield also serves as added protection against "violent physical harm". Installation of the shields has begun and the taxi operator will continue to roll them out in 50 taxis every week. It said the shield will be extended to more taxis if the trial is successful. Jakarta’s motorcycle taxis get backpack shield for coronavirus battle
JAKARTA: Jakarta's motorcycle taxi drivers have a new weapon in the battle against the coronavirus - a plastic shield they can strap on backpack-style to isolate them from passengers. Usually the most efficient way to get around the Indonesian capital's traffic-clogged streets, its thousands of motorcycle taxis have been restricted to transporting goods during the city's COVID-19 lockdown, eating into many drivers' incomes. MOSCOW: A flotation of Yandex.Taxi, a joint venture between Russia's top search engine Yandex and Uber Technologies Inc, is currently not a priority for the Russian company, its managing director told the Bell news outlet on Wednesday. Yandex.Taxi, the country's top online taxi service and the fastest growing business for Yandex, hired investment banks late last year to prepare for its long-awaited initial public offering in the first half of 2020. But with Russia largely on lockdown since late March due to the coronavirus outbreak, the taxi business has been hit hard, Yandex's Tigran Khudaverdyan told the Bell, with a recovery not expected in the next two quarters at least. With the taxi business in a temporary decline, the Yandex.Taxi IPO "is not our priority for now", Khudaverdyan told the Bell. He did not provide details on when the company may return to the plan. Taking a double hit from the coronavirus pandemic and low oil prices, Russian gross domestic product is … [Read more...] about Yandex does not see IPO of Yandex.Taxi joint venture as a priority – report
