White House says closely tracking Microsoft’s emergency patch

The White House is closely tracking an emergency patch Microsoft Corp has released, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Thursday, after an unknown hacking group recently broke into organizations using a flaw in the company's mail server software. "We are closely tracking Microsoft's emergency patch for previously unknown vulnerabilities in Exchange Server software and reports of potential compromises of U.S. think tanks and defense industrial base entities," Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden's national security adviser, said on Twitter. "We encourage network owners to patch ASAP," he said. His tweet included a link to a notice by Microsoft of the security update. Microsoft's near-ubiquitous suite of products has been under scrutiny since the hack of SolarWinds Corp , a Texas-based software firm that served as a springboard for several intrusions across government and the private sector. In other cases, hackers took advantage of the way … [Read more...] about White House says closely tracking Microsoft’s emergency patch

Family left with ‘only the clothes on our backs’ after devastating fire at house

A mum and her three children were forced to climb out of an upstairs window to escape their home during a "terrifying" fire which destroyed all of their possessions. Jessica Howston and her family have been left with nothing but the clothes they were wearing after the blaze broke out on the ground floor at their home in Reading, Berkshire, on February 25. They will be unable to return for at least six months and the fire was likely caused by an electrical fault, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue have said. Jessica, who has taken her traumatised children to temporarily live with her parents, said she had a "meltdown" after making it out of the fire, reports BerkshireLive. "It was just terrifying. We were in one of the bedrooms and I realised we had to get out," she explained. "The house was full of smoke, you couldn't see to the bottom of the stairs. If you want to contribute to helping raise funds for the family you can visit her JustGiving page here "I … [Read more...] about Family left with ‘only the clothes on our backs’ after devastating fire at house

Lindsey Graham Offers ‘Waffle House’ Plan to Dems Worried About $15 Minimum Wage

Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham has said he will talk to Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin about an alternate plan for raising the national minimum wage. Graham's plan, suggested to him by representatives from the national restaurant chain Waffle House, would index minimum wage increases to inflation. His plan could also soothe Machin's worries that the Democrats ' proposal to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025 would endanger small businesses already harmed by the pandemic's economic downturn. While Graham didn't offer specifics when mentioning his plan to reporters last week, similar proposals have tied annual minimum wage increases to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI measures changes in the costs of goods and services commonly purchased by households. For example, the current national minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. However, in Ohio, where the minimum wage is indexed to inflation, the wage is $8.80 an hour. "I don't mind … [Read more...] about Lindsey Graham Offers ‘Waffle House’ Plan to Dems Worried About $15 Minimum Wage
