PHUKET: Officials in Khao Phanom District, Krabi, have dismissed Phuket-based media reports that “thousands are missing” following two landslides in the district. The confirmed toll this morning is one dead and four injured, two seriously, they say. An officer at the Khao Phanom District Office internal security division in Krabi told the Phuket Gazette , “The first mudslide occurred yesterday in Baan Ton Han, in Na Khao subdistrict. “One person died and a few hundred others had to stay in eight temporary shelters set up by the District Office at local temples and schools.” However, some 1,000 villagers in other at-risk villages in the area have been asked to evacuate temporarily as a security precaution, he added. “The area is still flooded. Khao Phanom District will hold a briefing on the situation this afternoon,” the officer said. MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government and the World Health Organization (WHO) are still waiting for the separate indemnity agreement from Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca in order to finalize the delivery of their vaccines via the COVAX facility. Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and WHO Representative to the Philippines Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe disclosed this in different press briefings on Thursday. “Talagang kailangan lang natin ‘yung AstraZeneca saka po ‘yung Pfizer, magbigay po sila ng separate indemnification agreement,” Galvez said in a Palace briefing.
