20 Things Your Most Annoying Friends Do on Facebook

1. TMI Parents We love your babies, really we do. We do not, however, relish vivid descriptions of their every wee wee and poopee. And we especially don't look forward to 46 similar posts every single day. 2. Marketing Congratulations, you have a job! So does the majority of the rest of the 900 million people on Facebook. We simply ask one favor: If you wish to market, create a marketing page . If you wish to lose all your friends, keep spamming them with P90X ads. 3. Vaguebooking Urban Dictionary defines "vaguebooking" as the following: "An intentionally vague Facebook status update that prompts friends to ask what's going on, or is possibly a cry for help." See also: "Wondering if it's all worth it..." "Yep, that just happened." "Karma is a bitch." 4. Unsolicited Check-Ins I really don't think anyone cares about our third trip to Dunkin' Donuts this week. For that matter, I'd prefer if my boss didn't learn about our weeknight … [Read more...] about 20 Things Your Most Annoying Friends Do on Facebook

‘I love you and I always will’: Family, friends pay tribute to Singaporean kayaker who died in Malaysia

SINGAPORE: “I love you and I always will.” These seven words were posted by the daughter of Singaporean kayaker Puah Geok Tin early on Thursday (Aug 15) morning, hours after Malaysian authorities found a woman’s body in the waters off Kemaman, Terengganu. Family members of Ms Puah, 57 - who went missing along with Singaporean Tan Eng Soon while kayaking in Mersing last Thursday - have confirmed that the body is hers. The two were separated from their group while kayaking near the Endau islands. The search for Mr Tan, 62, is ongoing. On Thursday night, Ms Puah's daughter, Ranie Pang, took to Facebook to thank family and friends for their concern and support. The Big Read: Bearing few traces of its past, Clarke Quay’s decades-long search for an identity goes on

SINGAPORE: When dusk falls, the place comes alive — turning into a vibrant nightspot lined with pubs and clubs, as revellers spill over onto the streets and music blares in the background. There is the odd flasher and fights occasionally break out, along with other unsavoury incidents commonly associated with partying spots everywhere. But in the day, the place becomes much quieter — and more wholesome, playing host to cartoon character mascots like SpongeBob and Dora, as well as families with eager children in tow looking for a good time at the carnival games and Nickelodeon-themed festivals. Welcome to the two worlds of Clarke Quay, different as night and day, amid efforts to widen the appeal of the area which has one of the highest concentrations of clubs and bars in the city-state. Since 2012, about 1 million visitors go to Clarke Quay every month.  In response to queries, Mr Adrian Lai, the centre manager for Clarke Quay, said: Beyond catering to the night economy, … [Read more...] about The Big Read: Bearing few traces of its past, Clarke Quay’s decades-long search for an identity goes on

Regardless of what browser , search engine or social media app we use to search the web, every day we are peppered with ads that prey on our aspirations and insecurities to sell us products. An entire generation has grown up believing that if you want to check in on your friends, learn new skills or just entertain yourself then the cost of doing business is companies will exploit your personal data to sell you things.
