PARADISE: Search teams scoured the carnage of California's most destructive ever wildfire on Sunday (Nov 11), with the state-wide death toll climbing to 25 as high winds and tinder-dry conditions hampered the effort to save lives. Firefighters took advantage of a brief calm overnight to make headway against the multiple blazes, but conditions were expected to be hellish on Sunday with winds reaching as high as 110 kilometres an hour. In fire zones north and south, acrid smoke blanketed the sky for miles, the sun barely visible. On the ground, cars caught in the blaze were reduced to metal carcasses, while power lines were gnawed by the flames. AGRA: A bomb scare at the Taj Mahal located in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district triggered panic on Thursday after which several tourists were immediately evacuated from the world-renowned monument of love. According to reports, a call was received from an unknown caller who said that there was a bomb kept inside the historic monument. In view of the seriousness of the situation, a team of Agra Police and the CISF, which protects the monument, launched an intensive search inside the premises of the Taj Mahal. As a precautionary measure, tourists present inside the historic monument were immediately evacuated and both the entry and exit points were closed. According to the reports, the call was reportedly made from UP's Ferozabad and efforts are on to trace the caller at the moment. JAKARTA: An Indonesian diver involved in the search and rescue operation of Lion Air flight JT610 which crashed on Monday off West Java has died, an official said on Saturday (Nov 3). The incident took place on Friday, after Syachrul Anto, 48, went missing and did not return to the surface after 4pm, when the search was called off due to failing light. According to local news portal Merdeka.com, the dive mission’s team leader Bayu Wardoyo said the victim’s body was retrieved from the sea at 9.30pm (10.30pm, Singapore time). "He was found by the SAR team, fainted. He was treated by our doctors, after he regained consciousness, we sent him to the chamber for decompression. "We have all the equipment, however God's will says differently," national search and rescue agency head Muhammad Syaugi said at a press conference. A JUDGE has sparked fury after telling an accused rapist to marry his terrified victim if he wants to avoid jail in India. Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, the country's top judge, is facing calls to resign, with more than 5,000 people signing a petition for him to quit. The protests began after the judge told a man, accused of raping a minor girl, if he was willing to marry her. Bobde said: “If you want to marry (her), we can help you. If not, you lose your job and go to jail.” His comments sparked public outcry and prompted women’s rights activists to circulate an open letter - which has secured more than 5,200 signatures - calling for his resignation, campaigner Vani Subramanian said on Wednesday. SAN FRANCISCO: Google said on Thursday (Oct 25) it had fired 48 employees in the past two years - including 13 senior executives - as a result of sexual harassment allegations, citing "an increasingly hard line" on inappropriate conduct. The US tech giant issued the statement from chief executive Sundar Pichai in response to a New York Times report that one senior Google employee, Android creator Andy Rubin, received an exit package worth US$90 million as he faced allegations of misconduct, and that Google had covered up other claims of sexual harassment. Asked by AFP and other media for its reaction, Google released an email sent to employees from Pichai stating that 48 people had been terminated for sexual harassment in the past two years, including 13 who were senior managers and above and that none received "an exit package."
