SBI nets Rs 1563 crore from SBI Life Insurance divestment
State Bank of India (SBI) has netted Rs 1563 crore through its 2.1% divestment of insurer SBI Life Insurance. The public sector lender had in June notified its plan to divest 2.10 crore equity shares in the insurer to meet Minimum Public Shareholding (MPS) norms.The amount raised by SBI effectively translates to a share price of Rs 744 per share, 2.62% higher than the floor price of Rs 725 notified by the bank. Divested through the Offer for Sale (OFS) route, SBI opened bids for non-retail investors on June 12 and for retail investors on June 15.SBI MD Dinesh Kumar Khara in an interview to ETNOW reiterated the divestment was not done to raise capital, had no further plans to offload any more stake. According to Khara, SBI would hold 55.50% in the insurer following the stake sale.Khara further added “Our life insurance business is doing very well.
