FIFA leader defends his Saudi links and World Cup host Qatar

GENEVA - FIFA president Gianni Infantino defended his work with Saudi Arabia on Friday, and dismissed calls from Norway to boycott the 2022 World Cup in Qatar over human rights concerns. Infantino’s comments came in a first online news conference with international media in Europe since his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia in January. Then, the leader of world soccer had his latest meeting with Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s crown prince who was linked last month in a declassified U.S. intelligence report to ordering the 2018 killing of a Saudi journalist. “I’m the president of FIFA and as such I have to look at football and what football can do and the role football can play in society,” Infantino said on Friday when asked about having the meeting amid the allegations. He singled out the development of women’s soccer in Saudi Arabia that was “something unthinkable a couple of years ago.” During his visit, he praised the kingdom in a government promotional video that drew … [Read more...] about FIFA leader defends his Saudi links and World Cup host Qatar

Golobic, 29, of Fremont, California, competes primarily in sprint cars. He has earned 83 feature wins in his career, including victories in the World of Outlaws and the USAC national midget series. He has competed in stock cars before, making three starts in what’s now known as the ARCA Menards Series West for Bill McAnally Racing in 2013. He earned eighth-place finishes in two of those outings at All-American Speedway (Roseville, Calif.) and Kern County Raceway Park (Bakersfield, Calif.). “I believe every racer has dreamed of the opportunity to race in the NASCAR Cup Series, and the fact that it’s going to happen on dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway only makes it sweeter,” said Golobic in a team … [Read more...] about Sprint car driver Shane Golobic to run Bristol Cup dirt race

Despite nursing a chronic back ailment and having to go through three qualifying matches to make the main draw, Yu dominated the quarter-final against her world No. 41 opponent. But the crucial point in the duel was when she staved off a comeback from Suthasini in the first game. The Singaporean was leading 10-8, squandered two game points before she knuckled down to seal the opener.
