On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the world body of cricket – the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced the expansion of women’s cricket events post the 2023 cycle. The ICC tournaments for women cricketers will have more teams from 2026 onwards with the governing body announcing its expansion plan for the game to mark international women’s day. ICC said the T20 World Cup will have 12 teams instead of 10 from the 2026 edition. The ODI World Cup will also be expanded — from eight teams to 10 — from the 2029 edition. “More teams will compete in both the Women’s World Cup and the Women’s T20 World Cup from 2026 onwards as part of the ICC’s long-term commitment to growing the game globally and in a sustainable fashion,”CC stated in a media release. LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND—A World Cup speedskating event in Calgary and short-track competitions in Montreal and Laval, Que., have been cancelled because of COVID-19. The International Skating Union announced Monday that the first World Cup speedskating events of the 2020-21 season, including one in Calgary from Dec. 11 to 13, have been cancelled. BOSTON (CBS) — The Isobel Cup is coming to Boston. The National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) will complete its championship competition at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton later this month, the league announced Monday. The Isobel Cup Playoffs got underway in February in Lake Placid but were put on hold due to a rise in COVID-19 cases around the league. The tournament will return with enhanced health and safety protocols and enforcement, the league said Monday, with games set to be played March 26-27 at the home of the Boston Pride. Thailand’s Badminton Star Ratchanok Intanon has suffered a shock defeat at the hands of her Thai compatriot Pornpawee Chochuwong at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020 which started on Wednesday. Pornpawee, ranked fifth in the women’s singles category, took 62 minutes to upset World No.3 Ratchanok 15-21, 21-11, 21-18 in Group B that included No.2 Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan and No. 10 Pusarly V Sindhu of India. The event at Impact Muang Thong Arena ends on Sunday, with mixed doubles pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai aiming to make a clean sweep of three titles.
