Football: Stunning Reyna goal earns Dortmund draw at Frankfurt

FRANKFURT: A stunning strike from 18-year-old Giovanni Reyna on Saturday (Dec 5) earned Borussia Dortmund a 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt, who drew their fifth successive Bundesliga game. Daichi Kamada gave the hosts a ninth-minute lead but, despite missing leading scorer Erling Haaland with a hamstring injury, Dortmund took control after halftime and US midfielder Reyna levelled with the second Bundesliga goal of his career. Dortmund, who had not drawn in their previous 27 league games, are third with 19 points from 10 games ahead of the top-of-the-table clash between leaders Bayern Munich (22) and RB Leipzig (20) later on Saturday. Eintracht, without a win in eight games in all competitions, are eighth with 13 points. "In the end, we can be satisfied," said Dortmund coach Lucien Favre. "We always want to win but it wasn't a good first-half performance. The second half was better, with more intensity and movement, we just needed that little bit more to win ... I'm always … [Read more...] about Football: Stunning Reyna goal earns Dortmund draw at Frankfurt

No Haaland goals until next year as injuries add up for Dortmund

BERLIN: Borussia Dortmund will be short on defenders and firepower in front of goal when they travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, with their title chances suffering a blow after top scorer Erling Haaland was ruled out for weeks. The 20-year-old Norwegian will be sidelined with a muscle injury until January after he was surprisingly omitted from their squad in Wednesday's Champions League 1-1 draw against Lazio. Coach Lucien Favre later confirmed Haaland suffered a muscle injury in training and would return in January. He has netted 10 times in his eight league games this season and another six times in four Champions League matches. Dortmund also saw centre back Mats Hummels being helped off the pitch late in Wednesday's game after a knock on his ankle. They were already without defenders Thomas Meunier and Emre Can ahead of Saturday. "I just came from the hospital and it looks as if it is not too bad," Hummels said late on Wednesday on social media. "It … [Read more...] about No Haaland goals until next year as injuries add up for Dortmund

Who’s Interfering With Whom? New Documents Highlight Rank UK Hypocrisy Towards Russia

Projection. It’s the term psychologists use to describe when people accuse others of doing the very same thing they themselves are guilty of. It can occur on a personal level (think of the ’Inside the Tenters’ who accuse others of ‘trolling’ them on Twitter while they spend most of their time online attacking and denigrating others), and on an international level too. © Photo : Open Government Licence v 2.0 UK Foreign Office Docs Reveal 'Full-Spectrum' Psyops to 'Destabilise Russia', Journalist Says By any objective assessment, two of the worst culprits for projection are Britain and America. They routinely accuse others (usually Russia), of interfering in their ‘democracies’ while at the same time they seem to think they have a right to interfere with total impunity in the affairs of other sovereign states. And by that I don’t just mean illegally invading those countries (as in the case of Iraq), or bombing them (think Yugoslavia, Libya and Syria) to try … [Read more...] about Who’s Interfering With Whom? NZ’s Taylor keen to keep playing until 2023 World Cup

WELLINGTON: New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor gave his side a boost on Friday ahead of their Twenty20 series against West Indies after the 36-year-old said he hoped to prolong his career through to the next one-day World Cup in India in 2023. Taylor had said earlier this year he would probably have a better idea about his plans after this season. However, the novel coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of New Zealand's mid-year tours and prompted organisers to reschedule the Twenty20 World Cup, which had been due to be held in Australia in October. That enforced break had helped him recharge and take a fresh look at his goals, he said. "You've got to have short-term goals and long-term goals and the one-day World Cup is definitely on the radar," Taylor said. "It doesn't mean I will make it, but it's definitely one of my goals." But with the tournament being pushed back until later in 2023, Taylor acknowledged it might be out of reach. "(It) was going to be a … [Read more...] about NZ’s Taylor keen to keep playing until 2023 World Cup

Commentary: What stands in the way of England winning Euro 2020?

SINGAPORE: England has not won a major international tournament since Queen Elizabeth II presented captain Bobby Moore the World Cup at Wembley Stadium in 1966. But current captain Harry Kane is in with a chance of lifting his country’s second major prize into the London sky next summer - especially if certain issues can be fixed – as England hosts the final of the 2020 European Championships (Euro 2020). AMONG BOOKIES’ FAVOURITES Most bookmakers, in the United Kingdom at least, have England as the second favourites to be European champions behind 2018 World Cup winner France and above Belgium, number one in the world according to FIFA’s rankings. Second-billing may be slightly optimistic but there is no doubt that England are in the mix. And the signs look encouraging.
