Man Utd ‘need a centre-forward more than ever’ after struggling to break down rivals, insists Jamie Carragher on MNF
MANCHESTER UNITED lack 'quality' upfront and 'need a centre-forward more than anything', according to Jamie Carragher. The Red Devils failed to score against a fellow member of the 'Big Six' for a sixth time in a row against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. And while accusations of 'boring, boring Man United' have been levelled at boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team, pundit Jamie Carragher doesn't think the Norwegian is to blame. Instead, the 43-year-old thinks it's a 'quality' issue. He said on Sky Sports MNF: "I actually thought they were very brave, on the front foot, pressing man to man all over the pitch. "But in that final third they just didn't have that quality." Asked if that's the 'big issue', Carra responded: "For me yeah - I wouldn't describe Solskjaer as a defensive manager. "I know those results look like that and maybe other managers we would... but this is a guy who's played for Manchester United in those type of teams. Football: Solskjaer talks up Man Utd mentality ahead of Spurs match
REUTERS: Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he expects his players to hit the ground running when they face Tottenham Hotspur in their first game back when the Premier League season restarts this month. Soccer in England has been suspended since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but clubs have voted to restart the season on Jun 17. United travel to Spurs on Jun 19 and Solskjaer said his squad will have to go into that game with the same mentality they had on the opening day of the season when they dominated Chelsea in a 4-0 win at Old Trafford. "We've been looking forward to these games for ages really," Solskjaer told United's website on Friday. "The first game is two weeks from today so we need to step up the training and get an edge to our game again. "Everyone knows that we'll have to be at our best, have to be focused (against Tottenham). We know it's a big game for everyone. "We had Chelsea when we started the league this season so I'm confident … [Read more...] about Football: Solskjaer talks up Man Utd mentality ahead of Spurs match
