As the Sabres continue to lose games and inch their way toward a 10th consecutive non-playoff season, the trade speculation surrounding Jack Eichel is only going to continue to build. It seems unlikely that a trade will happen this season, and it may not even happen during the offseason. But there is now enough smoke that it would not be a shock to see something happen before his no-movement clause kicks in before the 2022-23 NHL season. The Sabres need another rebuild, Eichel is going to be tired of losing, and it just seems like something that could happen sooner rather than later. So what would such a trade look like? It is a unique situation because players this good, this young, and signed long-term do not typically get traded. Players like that are franchise building blocks that teams tend to keep at all costs. There are not a lot of comparisons for such a deal. But we still tried to find some to try and guess an approximate value. Given the speculation every fan and … [Read more...] about What would a potential Jack Eichel trade look like? History offers some clues

Liverpool in crisis after 1-0 loss to Chelsea in EPL
LIVERPOOL, England - Liverpool’s woeful home form is developing into a full-blown crisis after Chelsea’s 1-0 victory on Thursday inflicted a fifth straight league loss at Anfield on the Premier League champions — the worst run in the club’s 128-year history. With Liverpool’s title defence already over, this was billed as a battle for a Champions League place and Mason Mount’s 42nd-minute goal lifted Chelsea back into the top four. Chelsea’s previous win at Anfield, in 2014, effectively ended the title hopes of Brendan Rodgers’ side. This one was a blow to Liverpool’s chances of a top-four finish under Jurgen Klopp. Klopp’s side is four points adrift of Chelsea and with Everton and West Ham also ahead. Liverpool has now gone more than 10 hours without a goal from open play at Anfield. The hosts failed to register an effort on target until the 85th minute and Georginio Wijnaldum’s weak header was never going to beat Edouard Mendy. They have taken one point from the last 21 on … [Read more...] about Liverpool in crisis after 1-0 loss to Chelsea in EPL
Wizards beat Clippers 119-117 behind 33 from Beal
WASHINGTON - Bradley Beal scored 33 points and the Washington Wizards pushed ahead with a late run to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 119-117 after All-Star Paul George was a late scratch Thursday night. Russell Westbrook had 27 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds while Moe Wagner added 12 points as the Wizards snapped a two-game skid. Washington won eight of 11 heading into the All-Star break to move into the fringes of contention in the bunched Eastern Conference. Beal, an All-Star and the NBA’s leading scorer, was 9 of 23 from the field but made 14 of his 15 free throws. Westbrook, who is shooting a career-worst 60% from the foul line, missed a few late to keep the Clippers in the game until the end. He made 7 of 15 overall. “I still trust him,” coach Scott Brooks said. “He’s working on it. We’re going to get it back. He does so many great things for us.” Kawhi Leonard scored 22 points, Patrick Beverley had 17 and Ivica Zubac had 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Clippers have … [Read more...] about Wizards beat Clippers 119-117 behind 33 from Beal
Holiday hits baseline jumper to lift Bucks past Grizzlies
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - With seconds remaining, no timeouts and down a point, the Milwaukee Bucks knew they had to push the pace. Jrue Holiday took care of the rest. Holiday’s 11-foot baseline jumper with two seconds remaining gave the Bucks a 112-111 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night in a game where the teams exchanged leads five times in the final minute. “I was the first one down the court, so … it was pretty much me and (Grizzlies forward) Dillon Brooks,” Holiday said. “I just took the opportunity. I thought I made a nice play and knocked down the shot.” Memphis rookie Desmond Bane had a final chance for the Grizzlies, but his 3-pointer hit the front of the rim, giving the Bucks their sixth victory in seven games. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, and Khris Middleton added 22 points and 10 rebounds. Holiday and Pat Connaughton finished with 15 points each, both connecting on key baskets in the final minute. Ja … [Read more...] about Holiday hits baseline jumper to lift Bucks past Grizzlies
Football: Liverpool scramble for answers as season collapses
LONDON: Mohamed Salah's angry shake of the head after being substituted in Liverpool's defeat to Chelsea was symbolic of the champions' intense frustration as their season unravels. Jurgen Klopp removed his top scorer just after the hour mark on Thursday (Mar 5) but it did not prevent a 1-0 defeat and a fifth straight home loss for the first time in their history. The wheels have come off quickly for Liverpool, who were crowned English champions last season for the first time since 1990. As recently as mid-January, Klopp's men were top of the league and in the title picture despite being hampered by a spate of injuries, most notably to central defender Virgil van Dijk. Up until their shock 1-0 defeat to Burnley in January they had not tasted defeat in the league at Anfield since April 2017. But now they have a fight on their hands just to qualify for the top four - an unthinkable situation after winning the title last year by 18 points. Liverpool have earned just 10 … [Read more...] about Football: Liverpool scramble for answers as season collapses
