Chloe Kim headlines the world freestyle skiing and snowboarding championships, among several winter sports competitions on NBC Sports, Olympic Channel and Peacock Premium this week. Kim, who in PyeongChang became the youngest Olympic halfpipe champion at 17, bids to repeat as world champion in Aspen, Colorado. Kim went nearly two years between contests — taking a year off for Princeton freshman classes — before returning in January to win a World Cup event and, for the fifth time, the Winter X Games in Aspen. The world championships field is stronger than the previous events with China entering Olympic silver medalist Liu Jiayu and two-time world champion Cai Xuetong , one year before it hosts the Winter Olympics. Also entered: Maddie Mastro , the last person to beat Kim in competition in 2019, and Spain’s Queralt Castellet , who won the 2020 X Games in Kim’s absence. Other headliners include Australian Scotty James in men’s halfpipe and Americans Jamie Anderson … [Read more...] about Snowboard, freestyle skiing world champs highlight winter sports TV, stream schedule

Rockets reportedly do not want to follow “the process,” will not dump veterans for picks
Victor Oladipo . P.J. Tucker . Eric Gordon . Danuel House . Rockets players are at the heart of a lot of trade rumors swirling around the league; the team has lost 13 in a row heading into the All-Star break and is headed for a rebuild after the trade of James Harden . However, the Rockets and GM Rafael Stone are looking for a quality young player back in those potential deals, not just a bunch of picks (something they loaded up on in the Harden deal with Brooklyn). Don’t look for the Rockets to follow their own version of “the process” — Sam Hinkie’s bottom-out rebuild in Philadelphia — reports Jonathan Feigen in the Houston Chronicle . The Rockets have no interest, according to an individual familiar with the team’s thinking, in pursuing their version of “The Process,” by trading off veterans to collect assets and losses that could help lottery chances… The Rockets will be at best ambivalent even about the idea of trading veterans on expiring contracts, the … [Read more...] about Rockets reportedly do not want to follow “the process,” will not dump veterans for picks
Lakers, Nets, Bucks, others reportedly interested in P.J. Tucker trade
P.J. Tucker is a proven veteran who can defend, hit corner threes, and has stepped up in the postseason — which is why playoff-bound teams are interested in him. Tucker is high on the list of players likely to be traded at the deadline and contenders are lining up, Shams Charania reported at The Athletic . The Nets, Bucks, Heat, Nuggets and Lakers are expressing interest in Tucker, sources said. Multiple teams have sensed a deal could develop sooner rather than later for Tucker, but the timing is likely dependent on the Rockets’ asking price. As of now, Houston has sought a young player back in a trade, sources said. It makes sense that teams at the top of the food chain — especially ones who need depth and help at the four, such as the Heat and Bucks — would have serious interest in a Tucker trade. However, teams need to be cautious. Tucker, 35, has struggled this season and is averaging 4.4 points a game and shooting 31.4% from three. Teams tend to think Tucker’s … [Read more...] about Lakers, Nets, Bucks, others reportedly interested in P.J. Tucker trade
Report: Knicks still looking at Victor Oladipo for potential trade
The Houston Rockets are at least listening to trade offers for Victor Oladipo . The Knicks are still interested, reports Marc Berman of the New York Post . Oladipo, however, remains in play for the Knicks as the Rockets are expected to trade him at the deadline as they slide into oblivion. Oladipo will be a free agent in 2021 and reportedly wants to sign with the Heat. That would make Oladipo a rental as the Knicks look to boost their bid to snap a seven-year playoff drought. Knicks general manager Scott Perry, while with the Magic, drafted Oladipo second overall in 2013, and he has been a supporter of a potential trade. But Perry no longer is the top decision-maker. That’s Leon Rose , who also realizes that Oldipo and the emerging RJ Barrett play the same role in the offense. He also knows that Oladipo has not returned to his All-NBA form following his injury, he recently missed a handful of games with a foot injury (the latest in a string of injuries), and while … [Read more...] about Report: Knicks still looking at Victor Oladipo for potential trade
Adam Silver says NBA hopes to return to “normal” for next season
The NBA has not been hiding what it wants to do this season: Keep moving ahead, make as much money as they can even without fans filling buildings, crown a champion, and get on to next season when things will look far more traditional. That has not changed in the wake of 31 games being postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. “But the plan remains to try to resume our season as close to so-called normal as possible next year,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Saturday in his annual All-Star press conference. “It was one of the reasons why, in setting the schedule this year, we decided to stop in mid-July… Frankly, I’m fairly optimistic at this point that we will be able to start on time [next season], and that we have roughly half of our teams have fans in their arenas right now. If vaccines continue on the pace they are, and they continue to be as effective as they have been against the virus and its variants, we’re hopeful that we’ll have relatively full arenas next season as well.” … [Read more...] about Adam Silver says NBA hopes to return to “normal” for next season
